Have you been searching for a really good WordPress theme for your small business that uses your own logo and that you don't have to edit?
Not to toot my own horn for designing WP themes, but my friends kept telling me I have a natural creative talent for putting small websites together.
For years I've done plenty of my own small websites, but working with HTML was always something I liked and disliked, both.
Therefore, when I discovered WordPress (after hearing much about it), I've come to realize it really IS what everyone says it is.
One day I was watching a training DVD for Internet Marketing and the author was showing how to set up a WordPress website. As I followed along with his instructions, I first became intimidated.
WordPress was so much different that HTML! It totally confused me. After all, SQL? What is that? Database, configurations, and widgets just weren't part of my experience.
The 'guru' told me to find a WordPress theme from the hoards of free ones that are available online. And, so I did.
Working with someone else's theme became a nightmare for me. Although the colors and layout were perfect for my new site, many of the built-in widgets were useless.
And some things I wanted to have in the website, I couldn't figure out how to get in there.
I couldn't get the header to look the way I wanted it to look. Because I wanted it customized, and didn't know how to edit the cascading style sheet script (css), I became very frustrated.
Hours of precious valuable time were spent poring over code, when I should/could have been more productive.
WordPress is a whole content management system, based on a database of content, and where a web designer can add gadgets and video and interactivity that HTML just doesn't easily allow.
So, I REALLY wanted to learn this new system that, even though was hard to learn, would be more user-friendly in the end.
HTML is the "old school"... and although I still have plenty of html sites operating that were designed only a few years ago, WordPress is definitely today's platform of choice.
Four things I especially like about WordPress:
1. I love the ability to round the corners of the pages for aesthetics.
2. I love being able to create a drop-shadow on the page for depth.
3. I love the ability to control the size (width) of the pages.
4. I love the themes because menus are so easily created.
I realize the above things are for looks, not functionality. You see, the appearance of the website is what first attracts someone to stay and look around.
I believe the way a site looks is the first most important thing for a website owner or small business owner to consider.
A young woman interested in attracting suitors concerns herself with appearance first, personality second, abilities third. Thereby the steps are taken to discover the whole package.
