The number of talented web designers working freelance jobs through the Internet is growing on a daily basis. While this skill used to be possessed only by those who worked in the field for large businesses, many of those professionals are now online catering the growing crowd of online marketers and entrepreneurs who need websites but don't know how to create them efficiently. This creates an intense and very competitive market for web designers which can pay off for your bottom line.
If you are in the market looking for a few good websites or have an ongoing need for websites to be customized, you will come across a large pool of freelance web designers willing to take on your projects. If you can provide them with continuous work you will find an even longer line of designers ready to apply for the position.
This can be frustrating for some people because they don't know how to choose between this many web designers, but it is actually a great thing on a couple different levels:
Competition raises the bar as far as the quality of work acceptable for your money. If one designer can't produce high quality sites that please the customer they know there is that long line of others who will gladly take over.
Competition drives the price of web design services down some. The more designers there are competing for the same projects, the more competitive their prices must become to win out.
These two things work together to create a buyer-friendly market when it comes to web design. You can spend less but get a h
igher quality website simply because the designers know they are competing with one another and want to win the best projects.
So, how do you maneuver a market that has so many different designers out there bidding for your money? It can be a bit intimidating when you first get out there and start looking for a good web designer, but these tips will help:
1. You aren't interested in discovering every great web designer working online. There are far too many and you can't pay them all. Put yourself to the task of finding just one really great web designer that can handle the volume of work you have to give out. You can then stop searching and build a strong working relationship with that one designer (or design team).
2. Quickly eliminate any services that seem shady or questionable. If you feel like something is not right with a particular designer or service, rule them out and look elsewhere. You will know when you come across someone or a service that is the real deal.
3. Ask to see real working samples of a designers work before contracting with them. If there are a million excuses as to why these samples cannot be produced, put them in the questionable category and move on. There are many designers who would proudly put their work on display for you.
4. Don't discount a designer because they don't have a college degree or certificate in web design. Many of the best designers today taught themselves or learned while creating their own websites.
The highly competitive website design market may be intimidating or a bit confusing but with a bit of time you will start to see through the shoddy workers and find the true gems.
