You have a great idea for a website that you just know could be bringing in a killer second income. It may even have the potential to go all the way and replace your primary income. You will never know until you get it up and running, right?
The decision you have to make is how to get that website up and running. You can do it yourself and save some money or you can hire someone. Even hiring someone presents a decision. Do you go with some cheap freelance designer you find on an outsourcing board? Do you take the recommendation of a friend of a friend who does it in their spare time? Or, do you hire a professional design team to do the work?
If all you see are dollar signs when you think of hiring a professional, then you may decide to do the work yourself and save some cash. This seems like a great idea. After all, how difficult can it really be?
Designing vs. Designing Well
Practically anyone could set up a website today. You can purchase some drop and click services that cut out the need to work with HTML yourself or you can just use a template provided by your web host and add content.
The problem is these websites tend to be cookie cutters of many other websites that were built in exactly the same way. When you use a template or theme that is offered for free online, you know many others who want to save money have used it as well. These themes will never fit your business perfectly, won't make the best
impression on your visitors, and in the end will be complete replicas of the design many others are using.
Not such a good start for your amazing online business, right?
You may choose to pay for a template or theme to give your site a fast design, but now you are paying for something that is still being sold to others as well.
The trick here is that anyone can find a design for their website. It takes someone who knows what they are doing to design a website and do it well. If you're using templates or themes that have been used by others, you aren't really designing and it definitely isn't being done well.
Your Choice to Go it Alone
Once you decide that you want to create your own website design, you have to be prepared for the obstacles to come your way. You will have to decide between taking lots of time to learn HTML code and using one of those free or paid templates and themes that may also be in use by many other websites.
You will then have to figure out how to operate those designs on your website and keep them functional over time. If you have never worked with HTML, never owned a website, or never thought about SEO before, then chances are high you'll run across some problems along the way.
If you are trying to design your own website, it is important to figure out the exact reasons you have determined to take this road. If it is to save money, then ask yourself if you will be happy with the quality of the website you design on your own. If not, then saving some money really doesn't matter.
