What is your website going to be about? What is your site's domain? How will you design your site? Will you make a website yourself or have it designed for you? The helpful steps below will guide you through the process of building a website of your choice.
1. There are many free html tutorials online. These tutorials are especially beneficial if you don't have any website building skills. If you have no skills in this area and you don't have patience for learning these skills, there is always the option of hiring a web designer. However, hire someone that you know and trust. I wouldn't choose someone that is a total stranger or someone you know nothing about their skills or experience.
2. Be selective in using keywords for your website's description as well as a title. These words or word phrases will be what (you) want people to be searching for on the Internet to find your site. Unfortunately, some webmasters forget all about this important process. This is indeed the most important if you're going to rely on traffic to make money, and we ALL need traffic.
3. Give some careful thought about your hosting company. You will want to think about pricing and customer service. There are many reputable and reasonable hosting companies out there.
4. Avoid using big splashy images on your website. Search engines don't like them, in fact they don't even read or acknowledge them. Yes, that's right! Search engines don't even notice graphics on a website. And did you know that 4 out of 10 people will actually click on text links rather than images? So, you're a lot better off to use text links verses graphics.
5. Avoid grammar and spelling errors at all costs. People often see this as very unprofessional on your part. Say, if someone is trying to make a decision on which product or service to buy and they are considering one of your competitors, who do you think they will go with if you have these errors on your site, and their site is perfect? I know I would go with the most reputable and professional choice. It is obviously a wise decision. There are free online spell and grammar checkers, in fact, tons of them. Make for sure you check them out and test your website for common errors.
6. Make sure you include a working email as a contact for yourself on the home page. You want to interact with your website's visitors don't you? You have much more of a chance of making money by providing a way for people to contact you.
7. Make sure you include a site map for your site. This is just a page that redirects you to all the pages within the site. A well constructed web page should always have a site map. The link is usually found somewhere in the footer of most sites.
8. Consider advertising space to make more money with your website. If you do this, it's important to check out your competitor's ad space pricing, and make the price decision accordingly.
9. Every good quality site needs to have a "frequent questions and answers" page. In most cases, this will help answer your customer's and visitor's questions. Think about your target audience and what questions they will have.
10. Include a "links" page where you will exchange text or banner links with other webmasters. You will benefit much from this page. As you get more links directing to your site out on the web, the higher your search engines ranking and page rank with Google will be.
