Is It Worth While Creating Your Own Small Business Website?

Ask yourself a couple of basic questions before we dive in. Firstly, what kind of situation are you in? and secondly, what is the purpose of your new site?
Learning to create a basic business website isn't rocket science, if it were then I am reasonably sure that there would be a lot more rocket scientists around and a lot less web designers.
Very nearly anyone who has the aptitude to learn and in particular those that pick up systems rapidly can learn to design their own site and this is a description that usually fits the type of person that owns their own business. A lot of time learning about design fundamentals, CSS, HTML needs to be spent, then putting this new knowledge together as a website. And so we come to our first question. Does your situation allow you to spend the time learning these fresh skills?
With the state of current economy you might have been unfortunate enough to lose your employment and be in the situation of deciding wether to re-join the rat-race and struggle to find another job or to start up your own business. If this is your situation then you might have the time on your hands to le

If you already own or run a business the finding then extra time needed may prove very difficult. If this is your situation then building your own business website is not going to do you, your business or your family life and favours.
Our second question is what you are hoping to accomplish with your website? To answer this you first need to look at your business market and the level of professionalism that is expected of it.
You may well not have any online competitors or you might be promoting comparatively low cost services. If this suits your type of business then a very basic website is probably sufficient for your needs and it is realistic that you can achieve this by building your website yourself.
After looking at the websites belonging to your competitors you might feel that the level of their websites is outside what you can accomplish and that presenting a basic website to your market may not gain you any new clients. If this is the case then it might make better business sense to get a professional web design company to develop the sort of website that you could do with to gain that extra business.
