When you have a web based business it is important to wow your customers with good content and a nice looking home page. It is different then just owning a regular business you can't kill them with kindness. When you own a store you can win your customers over with a nice store front and nice employees.
When you have a web based business it is not only important to have a good product it is important to have a professional and well designed website. If the website is not done well then your customers will not even get a chance to see the product you are trying to sell.
One of the most important thing to do with your site is good navigation. You do not want your customers to have to search to find where they need to go next. You want them to be able to find it easy and without a second thought. You should have someone else who does not design websites to test it out to make sure that they have no problem figuring out what to do next.
Once you get the format of the site down you should continue it thru out the site. So that when your customers go t
hru your site they can easily figure out the next step. You can change the information on each site and also change the pictures from page to page. But you want to keep the buttons the same and in the same place.
You should always have a way for the customers to navigate back thru the site kind of like a back button. This can be done with breadcrumbs. You should also have it so that your customer knows where they are at in the site. For example somewhere on the page it should say "home/about us/contact us". You should have those word a little lighter and have it bolded on the section they are on.
The next thing to keep in mind is to keep it short and to the point. The reason for this is you do not want to confuse or bore your customer. You also want to pick a font that easy for everyone to read. The size of the font is also important you do not want the type so small that most people can not read it. If you have a colored background it is important to pick your text color so that it pops and doesn't hurt the eyes.
