I guess it depends on what kind of website you want and what you want it to do. A lot of the times when searching for web design prices or website design prices on a company you are probably going to see one major thing - fixed packages. These are packages you can choose from that are going to offer various options at a specific price. Then, once you start adding things on the designer will let you know how much each option is going to cost. For instance, you might see a package for $100.
This is going to include a regular html or java coded site along with 5 photos or images, and hosting which is optional. So if you want to add a e-commerce option; a Pay Pal shopping cart for instance, it might cost an extra $50 for that. So they would simply add that on to the original $100. The other thing you are going to see is people that have quotes on their sites. Personally, I like this option. Its okay if you don't know what you want. Just go to the quote section and they will probably ask you a few key questions such as; when should your site be ready? What do you want your website to do? Do you need any extras like SEO, SEM, hosting, maintenance, Internet Marketing, do you want to sell products? How many pages should the site be?
If you can answer these few questions they should be able to give you a good quote on the price and help you figure out whatever else you would need as well. I am in the middle of getting a site built right now. My first one was free because a friend knew VERY simple html. But the site is not very professional at all. The new site I am getting built is going to be VERY efficient and professional and it's going to cost me about $1,000. Now for a brand new site that is going to look good and do what I need it to do and be very functional for the customers; a $1,000 is worth it!
Not only am I going to look more professional but it's going to save me time because things are going to work they originally should have worked. Now I won't get 1000 emails about this or that. The customer will be able to do all the ordering on their own. This saves me time and money and I can concentrate on the more important things - the writing! In the end, this isn't going to be free - unless you have a very nice friend. But what it is going to cost won't put you out of house and home.
And if you think the price is too high you can do one of three things. You can either tell the designer it too much and they can work something out with you. Or you can do something called "milestone" payments. This is a nice option because then you won't have to pay a lump sum. Instead, you can pay X amount of dollars per each milestone confirmed and finished. Usually companies will ask for 4 payments of 1/4.
So if it's a $1,000 site they will want $250 at the start, $250 a quarter of the way through, $250 in the middle and $250 at the end. The other thing you can do is go somewhere else! Remember, there are always choices ahead of you. So if you want a website design cavan or web developers Ireland and you find a few, but they are too expensive you can always find someone else or ask them to suggest someone else!
