Throughout the years web design has evolved at a rather amazing rate. For instance, do you remember when the first web pages were being created? They were nothing more than text created on UNIX based machines. In those days the internet was nothing more than a geek playground, and as it grew, the internet was briefly something to be feared. That times has passed however, and we are now truly in a time where the e-conomy is thriving.
The internet created a phenomenon: blue and white collar workers were suddenly able to work from home doing anything they wanted. They could sell, they could start their own company, and many of them became millionaires. This was the first time in our history that a small business had the ability to go global with just one person at the helm. This is what e-commerce has done for us, and this is the direction that our society is heading.
In order to enter this world, you will need to know a thing or two about web design. There are basics, and they are pretty easy to learn actually. HTML and DHTML are two important fundamentals, but these days HTML is actually put on the back burner. Things like CSS Style sheets, JavaScript, Flash, and ActiveX are on the forefront of web de
sign, and if you don't know them, then you are going to be outclassed by those who do.
Something else to note is that today it's all about the menus! There was a time when most webpages were literally all one page, but now it's all about the menus and making those menus look good. You can use buttons or you can use sliding menus. It all depends on what you or the client you are coding for wants. When you are making these menus, remember that they are what will likely keep the customer on the page, so make sure they look good! If they don't, then you're going to have a serious problem and so will your client.
With that being said, it's time to buckle down and learn all you can about web page design. There are many schools and accredited colleges that you can attend, and by doing so you will be able to learn the skills you need to survive in this cutthroat web based economy. Luckily classes aren't terribly expensive and if you're good at what you do, then you can learn from a book quite easily.
A new world requires a new set of skills. Do you think you are up to the challenge? If so, then it's time to stop stalling and start learning those skills. They will take you far in this new world, and eventually you might just find the financial independence that so many people are looking for.
